When we die, how will our children live their lives? I was chatting with my sister-in-law and I had a different perspective on “living out our purpose”.
We recently celebrated my mom-in-law’s birthday. We remember her as being cheerful in all circumstance. She always made herself available for the needs of other and she was always prepared. She was the family’s ultimate survival box who had everything the family needed.
When she passed, I was thinking that she must have completed her purpose already. But how can we be assured that she was able to live her purpose excellently? How am I suppose to live the same way?
Then it got me thinking that “who” our children become when we die is the greatest assurance that God is pleased with fulfilling our purpose as a parent. The character and the discipline our children practice is a reflection of the authenticity and effectivity of who we are.
Yes, we are called to be the best we can be but what is our “thermometer” to check? I believe it is the life that our children will live when we are not around.
There may be a lot of humps and manholes along the way, but when our children become fully secured of who they are in Christ, living out their faith genuinely, then I believe, its proof that we have lived our purpose excellently.
As I said to my sister-in-law of whom I have witnessed her bumpy faith journey;
“ I am assured that God is pleased with mom’s life because of the life you live. She was able to pass on a legacy and make her life count because you are excellently living your life for Christ. She was able to be the best she can be and be successful in it because looking at your life now, you are living genuine faith and you are able to complete mom’s purpose because of it”
I honor my mother-in-law that she did not live to make her children proud of her. She lived to do her “work” excellently and have Jesus be pleased with her.
So now, instead of saying “your mom/dad must be so proud of you”, I would like to practice in saying that “the Lord must be so pleased of your mom/dad because of your life”
I believe our souls are the water that the great gardener uses to make the seeds he planted to other grow. It is His responsibility to plant, water and prune this seed. We just need to take the responsibility to be connected to the water pipe and run through the watering hose and spill to the soil.
We just continue what we are made to do, to water and be free of the burden about the seed to grow. We are the best person right now in where we are in who we meet, to become what we are made to do.
I praise God that I have a wonderful mother-in-law and I continue to learn from her wisdom through the lives of her children.
They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. Jeremiah 17:8
Mom was so much better in posting photos of the family and the kids :) we’d always be tagged in all her posts. Possibly God’s way of preparing our hearts that we would need this much reminding
