Accidental Influencer No More
When I am invited or labeled as an “influencer”, I shrink inside and I feel unworthy. Why am I even here? How can I be an influencer when in the world’s point of view, I have been defeated by death? Why would anyone believe or want to listen to any of my opinions? I am a failure, how can my opinions matter? Why would people seek my help when I have failed and might continue to fail? I don’t deserve to be an “inspiring” person because I am full of mistakes and continue to fail! In the same way, I remember telling God back then “Lord, you need to heal her, otherwise who would believe in You, who would want to follow You?” It is simply ironic! But He is sovereign and when He said “no”, that was when so much miracles happened and more believed and followed Jesus. My unconstructive thoughts would whisper “Everyone gets their miracle and happy ending because of our pain and joy but I on the other hand is left empty handed” I prayed and asked for discernment regarding this unexpected “influencer” role. Should I continue to do what I did before our “tragedy” happened as if nothing has happened or should I embrace this role? Or should I just suddenly close down my social media accounts? In every event that I am invited and attend to, it usually takes me a long time before I go down the car. I pray and ask for humility to learn, confidence to approach people and discernment to identify those who may need encouragement or someone to listen to. I ask myself, instead of gaining, what can I give during the few hours that I have? I need to watch myself and be grounded that being an “influencer” is not a privilege but a beautiful responsibility. No matter how much encouragement my husband would say, I would argue and not believe. But God, the personal Father that He is, knows how to speak to me clearly. I recently shared on social media how satisfied I was with Ninja Made PH; a household service that doesn’t just do cleaning service but also aircon, pluming and some handyman work. They employ less fortunate individuals who cant find a decent job because of their lack in education, old age or disability.
I saw how cheerful the staff was, how thorough they cleaned and how motivated they were to finish well. A week after, Ace, their employer shared to me that they received a lot of inquiries, bookings and followers but the following story she shared to me pierced my heart. I met her again and she pulled me aside thanking me but I told her how I didn’t do anything really; it was their service and because she placed God first, He provided the work.
I simply evaluate products and services and see who would benefit it as much as I do. (Because there are some products and services that I have chosen not to share because of quality of product or service. But for some, I just really forgot or have not yet gotten an opportunity to use it so please forgive me!!)
She continued that a week before approaching me, she had a staff meeting and told her employees the possibility of terminating some of them because there was not enough work to sustain the overhead. After we shared how satisfied we were, work came in and they got so overwhelmed with the inquiries and bookings that Ace was getting overwhelmed with the number and scheduling. When pay day came, her staff was so shocked at the amount they received and didn’t believe it and thought that their employer might have made a mistake! Because of their earnings, they were able to send money to their families; for education, pay off bills and provide for their family. Not only this, Ace’ children joined Courageous Light’s hospital visit. It was their first time to see the storm troopers and the Disney characters but when my sister asked them what was their favorite part of the day, they answered “giving out the coloring sheets and crayons to the patients”. (rather than seeing the Storm Troopers and Disney characters!!) Some of our followers on social media also shared how satisfied they were with the services and products we continue to share; How they have been looking for a company but didn’t knew where to find a trusted one until we shared our experience online. I just want to take this opportunity to encourage the strangers turned friends aka followers that you have played a vital role in supporting a family in need, to teach a business person about putting God first and a child to think beyond oneself. This is just one of the wonderful stories I receive from dozens of brand owners! Another story was about one of the influencers I met during one of the events. God opened an opportunity and she shared her fears. I didn’t know what to do or how to encourage but I did it anyway.
Months later, we met again and she shared to me how much her perspective has changed and how our spontaneous talk really made an impact
It has indeed come in full circle.

May we continue to shift the purpose of social media; to build up rather than to tear down. To discern and encourage rather than to make anyone feel inferior. To embrace that not every opinion should be accepted, instead to help each other search for the truth and to live it out. Maybe that’s the kind of influencer I want to be positioned for? That we do not have to be perfect, instead we strive to learn, discern and be the best we can be to live out and spread truth rather than opinions.
What do you think?
Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
